6th AMW commander's call focuses on thanks
by 2nd Lt. Larry van der Oord
The 6th Air Mobility Wing commander had one simple message for the men and women of MacDill during the May 6 commander's call: Thanks for all you do!
Col. Margaret Woodward shared her "gratitude journal" with the wing during both sessions of the commander's call. The journal was a photo diary/ slideshow with pictures of Team MacDill to show thanks for all their hard work.
This unique visual representation of gratitude displayed images of wing personnel hard at work during the past year. Colonel Woodward had been keeping the journal since assuming command of the 6th AMW, and felt the commander's call provided the perfect venue for its debut.
Prior to the start of the morning session, Col. Charles W. Mackett III, 6th Medical Group commander, was awarded the Bronze Star for his efforts while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During the commander's call, wing personnel also received briefings from two of their biggest mission partners -- U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command. Marine Maj. Gen. John G. Castellaw, U.S.
CENTCOM chief of staff, and Marine Brig. Gen. George J. Flynn, U.S. SOCOM chief of staff, director of Command Support Center, both volunteered to personally present mission briefings on their respective units. The briefings helped wing members become more familiar with some of their neighbors on base.
MacDill’s team of participants in the Air Mobility Expeditionary Rodeo 2005 were also announced during commander’s call.
AMC Rodeo is the Mobility Air Force's readiness competition. This competition focuses on improving worldwide air mobility forces' professional core abilities. Rodeo 2005 will be held at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., June 19-24.
Following the second session, Colonel Woodward held a Wing Picnic at the Base Beach to further thank the men and women of MacDill for their diligent dedication to the mission. The picnic gave wing personnel the chance to relax and enjoy some fellowship with their fellow Airmen while enjoying a hot dog and the beautiful Tampa Bay day.
All the top performers from CORONA South, Phoenix Rally and Air Fest 2005 were personally recognized for their efforts by Colonel Woodward.
