MacDill welcomes new 6th MXG commander

Colonel David W. Norsworthy assumed command of the 6th Maintenance Group from Colonel David A. Sowinski in a ceremony March 18.
Colonel Norsworthy joins the MacDill team after coming from Scott Air Force Base, Ill., where he served as the chief of maintenance policy, Aircraft Maintenance Division, Directorate of Logistics, for Air Mobility Command.
In his previous assignment at Scott AFB, Colonel Norsworthy directed development and use of 36,000 personnel, and developed and implemented procedural and training management for all aircraft systems. He was also responsible for managing and analyzing the health of the entire AMC fleet.
Colonel Norsworthy entered the Air Force as a second lieutenant in 1981 after graduating and commissioning through Auburn University, Auburn, Ala. He is a senior navigator with more than 2,000 hours in the WC-130E/H and C-130H.
Taking over for Colonel Sowinski as the 6th MXG commander, Colonel Norsworthy will be responsible for overseeing the generation, repair, and sustainment of 12, KC-135R, and three C-37 aircraft, supporting worldwide aerial refueling, airlift and special assignment missions for U.S. and allied forces, as well as providing direct support to the unified combatant commander, U.S. Central Command.
Colonel Sowinski retired from active duty March 18 after more than 31 years in the U.S. Air Force.
