Greetings from new 6th AMW commander
As I begin my tour in command of the 6th Air Mobility Wing, I want each and every one of you to know that I am truly honored to be a member of Team MacDill. As one of just a few mobility wings in the Air Force, MacDill plays a vital part in preserving the strength that makes us respected in peace and decisive in battle.
We are a great nation that stands for freedom and liberty in every corner of the world. Whether you wear a uniform or support those who do, you share in the responsibilities that accompany being a beacon of hope to the people of the world who live in oppression, despair and misery. And to those cowards who wish to export their brand of terror, every member of the 6th stands side by side with Americans and Allies throughout the world, and says simply: "not on our watch."
Today, together at MacDill, it is our watch. We are a team with a mission as important as any in the Air Force and our obligation to leave our children and grandchildren a more secure, peaceful and free world is crystal clear. We are all part of something bigger than ourselves and we must hold up our end of the effort. And I know we will!
If first impressions are any measure, the men and women of the 6th are phenomenal. Thank you for making me feel welcome and I commend your drive, energy, professionalism and polish. I know you will give 100 percent toward our mission... and I appreciate it.
MacDill has a long history of contributing to American and Allied military might. For more than 60 years, through World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, Desert Storm, Allied Force and now the Global War on Terrorism, the men and women of MacDill have traded blood, sweat and tears for victory.
Our job then, is to consider the sacrifices of those who have gone before us and carry on so they will not have given in vain. We will do this by refusing to walk by problems, by seeking success rather than fearing failure, by making things better every single day and by living with a shared set of values... integrity, service, excellence. We will do this as a team, working together, supporting each other and our families... and we will enjoy ourselves in the process!
To all... I salute your past achievements and look forward to sharing those the future holds. Thank you for all you have done and all you will do for our mission, our wing, our Air Force and our Nation.
MARGARET WOODWARD, Col., USAF
