Wing CC bids farewell to world-class people, community

by Brig. Gen. David Tanker Snyder
6th Air Mobility Wing commander

As the change of command approaches, I take one last opportunity to thank you, the men and women of MacDill Air Force Base, for your outstanding performance and teamwork.

On a daily basis, you have made world class mission accomplishment and support a reality. The Airmen and front-line supervisors of the wing have led the way showing us what it means to be world class. We are the envy of the command and we are indeed the world's most responsive, reliable and renowned airlift wing.

The entire wing has stepped up time and again when the command, the Air Force or the nation needed you. From deploying to support the Global War on Terrorism to playing host to CORONA, PHOENIX Rally and one of the world's largest military airshows you have shined on the grandest of stages.

World class is the entire atmosphere in which we work, live and enjoy at MacDill. Your professionalism, appearance, leadership, dedication, and character have left the "wow" effect on thousands of visitors. Most importantly, you have magnificently supported the men and women of MacDill and their families. You have denied the status quo and have been constantly driven to improve upon every aspect of this base.

MacDill is the only installation in the Department of Defense with two separate combatant commands and it is a privilege to team with U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command along with our other partners like JCSE, NOAA, the 290th JCSS, the Naval Reserve Center and the more than 45 other mission partners here.

Finally, the Tampa community has partnered with this base like nothing I have seen elsewhere in my career. The constant outpouring of well-wishes and support to our military, civilian and family members make it possible for us to achieve our world-changing mission. Tampa is indeed a special place to live and work and it has been an honor to be a part of it.

As Tammy and I leave this great team, we do so knowing we owe each of you a debt of gratitude for your hard work, your determination and your loyalty to our mission and the Air Force that make MacDill a truly special place and a community we will always call home.
