Tanker leaving MacDill
by 1st Lt. Erin Dorrance
Brig. Gen. Tanker Snyder, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander, has been selected for reassignment to Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii, where he will serve as the U.S. Pacific Command strategic planning and policy deputy director.
"It has been an honor to lead the men and women of the 6th Air Mobility Wing and to have been surrounded by such tremendous mission partners," said General Snyder. "I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to serve as the wing commander at an outstanding base in a community whose support is never short of fantastic."
General Snyder took command of the wing Jan. 9, 2002. He oversaw numerous initiatives such as the opening of the Davis Conference Center, an updated Enlisted Club, new military family housing communities, a recently approved visiting quarters and collocated club, a 125-foot air traffic control tower, as well as many other projects on base.
"The world-class team at MacDill has a huge mission with a tremendous impact on the war on terrorism," said General Snyder. "The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, civilians and contractors that make up our team have made us all so proud of their accomplishments at MacDill and around the world."
"I would also like to thank the many military families, retirees and many visitors for their tremendous support during my time here at MacDill," said General Snyder. "Their encouragement contributes heavily to the success of our mission."
Col. Margaret H. Woodward, currently deputy director for colonel matters at the Air force Senior Leader Management Office at the Pentagon, Washington D.C., will replace General Snyder. Colonel Woodward is an Arizona State University graduate and has logged more than 3,500 flight hours in the T-37, T-38 and KC-135 A/Q/R/T. A change of command ceremony will be held at MacDill in early February.
