Tax return headache? See the RAO

6th Air Mobility Wing legal office

The Retiree Activities Office will assist active-duty personnel, reservists, retirees and dependents with personal income tax returns beginning Feb. 3 until April 15. The RAO is located between the Base Exchange and the Commissary, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Walk-ins will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis, but military in uniform will be given priority from 9 to 11 a.m. daily.

There will be three terminals dedicated to walk-ins at all times. If you prefer, you can call and make an appointment for one of the two appointment terminals by dialing 828-0248.

Some important things to remember when going to the RAO: Make sure to bring all important tax documents such as forms W-2, 1099 (all variations), powers of attorney and Social Security numbers for all children and dependents. Because seating is limited, the RAO requests that small children not be brought to the office.

This free service is a function of the IRS's VITA program and sponsored on base by the Base Legal Office and the RAO. The tax preparation work is done by active-duty members and retired volunteers whom the IRS has certified.

All returns are computer-generated and will be electronically filed unless the taxpayer prefers a paper return. Contact your unit tax adviser if you have any questions regarding this program
