More than 1,500 handmade valentines from students of 21 local elementary schools were delivered to MacDill Feb. 14. Col. Tanker Snyder, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander, accepted the cards on behalf of MacDill's servicemembers.

One pink, poster board-sized valentine read, "To Our Heroes!" Each letter from the word hero spelled out an even-larger message; "Happy Valentine's Day, Endurance, Really strong, Outstanding and Super Heroes." The Tampa Bay Roughriders' and Tim Dose, Tampa Postal Service, presented the valentines to Snyder at MacDill's Memorial Park.

The Rough Riders organization is a service and social club. The club participates in a variety of civic and service projects throughout the Bay area.

With recent mail concerns, the cards were not able to make it overseas and were distributed on base to members of the 6th AMW, U.S. Special Operations Command, U.S. Central Command and other base agencies.

Snyder said the outpouring of support the community has provided keeps amazing him and hasn't stopped since he arrived a short while ago.
