An estimated 500,000 people came out to MacDill's AirFest 2004 April 2 and 3 to see some of the military's top aircraft up close.

Last weekend more than half a million people came through the gates of MacDill for AirFest 2004. This was our first open house since April 2001, and given the post 9/11 environment we live in today, safety and security for our people, visitors and government resources are a top priority.

AirFest 2004 was a world-class event thanks to the outstanding leadership of Lt. Col. Jim Dice, Mr. Dick Cutshall, Lt. Col. Kwan McComas, Lt. Col. Jim Dudley , Lt. Col. Marc Goldhagen, Melony Angelilli, Sharon Kozlek and Wendy Foster, to name a few. Also, a special thanks to Lt. Col. Steve Kauffmann, Senior Master Sgt. Steve Mootz and the rest of the Security Forces team for keeping us all safe by ensuring MacDill remained a hard target.

I also want to thank the rest of the Airmen and civilian team members from just about every group, squadron and staff agency in the wing as well as our mission partners - Special Operations Command, Central Command, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Joint Communications Support Element and many others.

Throughout the weekend, from our security forces augmentees to maintenance and operations personnel and everybody in between, I was proud to see the positive attitudes, professionalism and dedication from the entire team. Many people from this tremendously supportive community told me how proud and appreciative they are of our men, women, and families that are serving the nation at MacDill and around the globe. You made us all proud!

AirFest involved hundreds of planning hours and a lot of hard work. As a result you executed a great plan and showed this remarkable community why their U.S. military is the best in the world. Well done!
