The United States Special Operations Command and industry partners gather annually for Special Operations Forces Week and Advance Planning Briefing to Industry. This year SOF Week is May 11 to 13. The week of activities builds relationships with government entities as well as provides an opportunity to personally interact with SOF senior leaders and operators. Many of the events take place at the Tampa Convention Center and the SOCOM Commander, Gen. Bryan D. Brown, encourages all service members to attend as many of the events as possible.

The week kicks off May 11 at 9 a.m. with the Medal of Honor Valor Day Ceremony at the SOF Memorial. Hosted by the USSOCOM commander, eight Medal of Honor winners will gather to dedicate a new stone for the SOF Memorial Wall and honor those who have fallen in support of the global war on terrorism. Following the ceremony there will be a "Meet the Heroes" session at the Officer's Club for the public to meet the eight Medal of Honor winners who will be participating in the ceremony.

At 12:45 p.m. the Retired SOF Senior Leadership golf tournament begins. The event takes place at Bay Palms Golf Course and is open to all personnel who register.

May 11 at 7 p.m. is the social gathering at the Florida Aquarium. This event includes a cocktail party with hors d'oeuvres, calypso music and a cash bar. There is no specific dress code for this social, however it is suggested that tropical wear is desired.

On May 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the second golf tournament at Bay Palms Golf Course will take place. It is open to all who register.

May 12 and 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Special Operations Forces industry exhibits at the Tampa Convention Center will be open and SOCOM and base personnel are invited to tour the exhibits. This is a free event and everyone is encouraged to come downtown and see the latest equipment and technology. The base will provide free shuttle service for those in service dress from MacDill to the convention center and back throughout the day.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the SOF Mess Night/Bull Simon Award ceremony starts. This is a black tie or mess dress event held at the Tampa Convention Center. The Mess Night begins with a social hour in the exhibit hall with complementary beverages. At 7:30 pm guests will enjoy dinner, entertainment and the awards ceremony.
