Pharmacy budget limits prescriptions

As a result of the increase in pharmacy utilization and the increasing cost of pharmaceuticals, the 6th Medical Group must make changes in order to remain within their pharmacy budget. To provide a fair and equitable benefit across the board for our beneficiaries without removing prescription medications from current availability, the best way to accomplish our end goal will be to limit all prescriptions, new and refills, to a maximum of 30 days with appropriate refills. This change will be effective Monday. In addition, we will be limiting the medications available through our over-the-counter program.

The Department of Defense offers the most robust pharmacy benefit in the nation. If the 6th Medical Group cannot meet your needs, you have the opportunity to utilize the retail pharmacy network or the Tricare mail order pharmacy program for a nominal cost share. Information regarding the TMOP may be obtained by calling toll-free 866-363-8667 or by visiting www.express-scripts.com. Beneficiaries should be aware that the most cost-effective means for obtaining prescriptions outside the MTF is the TMOP with 90 day supplies costing $3 for generic medications and $9 for brand medications. If you have any questions regarding pharmacy benefit options, call the pharmacy at 827-9300. If you have any questions/concerns regarding the change in policy, call 827-9525.
