Remembrance Ride for 9/11: Motorcyclists from far and wide come to Tampa for memorial event

This bike was painted directly after the events of 9/11 and was driven in the 12-mile 9/11 Remembrance Ride from Gadsden Park to Channelside in downtown Tampa Saturday. The custom paint was done by Bob Popelstine and son in Remembrance of 9/11.

Bikers line up for the beginning of the Remembrance Ride. Each year since 2001, riders have come from as far away as New York to participate in the event that raises money for Operation Warmheart and the Gold Shield foundation.

Keni Thomas, lead vocals of the group Cornbread, performs for bikers at Channelside Entertainment Complex. The concert was the grand finale for th Remembrance Ride. Mr. Thomas is a former Army Ranger whose story was featured in the movie “Black Hawk Down.”

Members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department came out to help direct the traffic for what has become the largest escorted ride in Florida.
