Q: With the new focus on fitness in the Air Force, why isn't the fitness center open 24 hours a day? The majority of bases I have been assigned to have fitness centers that do not close.

A: The current hours for the MacDill Fitness Center are Monday through Friday from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Air Force instructions mandate the center is open no less than 112 hours per week, and with these hours our center is open 119 hours.

We feel these hours provide maximum accessibility to virtually everyone including those with the most demanding duty schedules. The 5 to 12 hours the Fitness Center is closed provides the maintenance staff the opportunity to perform thorough cleaning and minor equipment maintenance to maintain this facility in a clean and superior condition for everyone to enjoy.

Our fitness center has been consistently ranked among the best in the Air Force and I hope you can find time in their schedule and yours to make fitness a regular part of your life.
