All decked out in her new outfit after a five-week fitness and health boot camp, one military spouse rejoins her husband April 2 after his six-month deployment in Iraq.

Kim Crane won the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa MacDill Makeover after 1st Lt. Heidi Priestley, 6th Logistics Readiness Squadron, submitted an essay of why Mrs. Crane deserved to win.

"When you envision the epitome of a strong military spouse, Mrs. Kim Crane - without a doubt - fits the bill," said Lieutenant Priestley in her winning essay to the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa makeover contest.

Mrs. Crane was ecstatic when she found out she won.

"It was unbelievable," she said. "I am not employed and it was great to get out of the house and meet new people. The entire staff at Safety Harbor Resort and Spa are incredible…they just blew me away."

Mrs. Crane said winning the contest did help ease some of the tension her family experienced during her husband's six-month deployment. While Tech. Sgt. David Crane, 6th Logistics Readiness Squadron, was stationed in Iraq as a convoy commander, he missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, his 21st wedding anniversary as well as the birthdays of his three children and wife.

She said her husband's reaction to her new look when she came home was rewarding. She added that he loved her new short hair style.

Included in Mrs. Crane's makeover was a new outfit, a hair cut and style, a facial, dental cleaning and x-rays, dental whitening, a five-week program with a nutritional consultant and personal training.

The makeover also included three nights out to include the Nutcracker Ballet, Broadway Musical Grease and a stay at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. Each outing included dinner at Bracci and limousine transportation by Dimmitt Cadillac.

Mrs. Crane admitted her favorite part of the makeover was when she and her husband were allowed to go back stage after they saw Grease at Ruth Eckerd Hall. They met Frankie Avalon, who plays Teen Angel in Grease.

Mrs. Crane wants to thank Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, all the other contributing businesses that made the makeover possible, including Lieutenant Priestley for the makeover opportunity.
