Hispanic Heritage Month
The MacDill community is celebrating Hispanic Heritage from Sep. 15 to Oct. 15. This year's theme is "Making a Difference in Our Communities and Our Nation," and invites a reflection of the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to our communities and to recall important milestones in Hispanic history. The Total Awareness Cultural Committee sponsors all events and activities.
Calendar of events and activities

Hispanic Arts and Crafts Display: Items will be displayed from Sep. 15 to Oct. 15 at the Base Library.
Trivia Contest: The Trivia Contest will test your knowledge of Hispanic heritage. Each week, there will be 10 trivia questions published in the MacDill Thunderbolt. Questions must be answered and sent electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org by close of business each Thursday. Questions will be published in the Thunderbolt Sep. 17, 24 and Oct. 1. Three winners will be announced at the Oct. 7 luncheon.
Participants must complete all three trivia entries to be eligible for the prizes: first place - color television, second place - DVD player and third place - VCR. For more information, contact Staff Sgt. Jose Plasencia at 828-1858.
Taste of MacDill: There will be a free Hispanic food tasting Sep. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Base Exchange. There will also be music and entertainment sponsored by Army Air Force Exchange Service. For more information, contact Anfisa Bell at 840-0600.
Youth Center Fiesta: This fun event will take place Sept. 24 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Youth Center. Members of the MacDill community will provide Hispanic food tasting and share information of Hispanic history to the children who attend. For more information, contact Tony Nanes at 828-7956.
Tinker Elementary Drawing/Coloring Contest: Pictures will be displayed on the north side of the Base Exchange. The contest will run from Sep 27 to Oct 1. Winners will be announced at the Hispanic Heritage Luncheon Oct. 7. For more information, contact Anfisa Bell at 840-0600.
Hispanic Heritage Luncheon: This event takes place Oct 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Enlisted Club. The guest speaker will be Mr. Victor Cruz, Florida Law administrative judge and retired Air Force major. Live entertainment will be provided by the FunSingers Band and Salsa X-Treme Studio dancers.
