Transition assistance for Guard, Reserve available at FSC

The MacDill Air Force Base Transition Assistance Office offers transition services to Guard and Reserve members who have been on active duty for 180 continuous days. These are the same services utilized by full time active duty military.

They may also be offered to you at your mobilization/demobilization point. Check with your servicing personnel office to determine where that location will be and what services are available.

When using the MacDill Transition Office for services, the first step to begin the transition process is to attend Preseparation Counseling at the Family Support Center. At the briefing you will receive important information on benefits and services offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Labor and the Department of Defense.

You will also complete a DD Form 2648, Preseparation Checklist, during this briefing and then turn it in to the Separations and Retirements staff at your final out-processing. Topics addressed at the briefing include:

  • Creation of an Individual Transition Plan
  • Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act
  • Department of Labor 3-day TAP Workshops
  • Other employment assistance information for members and spouses
  • Relocation assistance
  • Educational benefits and programs
  • Medical and dental coverage available upon separation or retirement
  • Financial planning assistance
  • VA Disabled Transition Assistance programs for eligible members

To start your transition process at MacDill, call the FSC at 828-0145 to schedule an appointment for your Preseparation Counseling.

You must attend this briefing BEFORE you can attend a Department of Labor 3-day TAP workshop, so be sure to attend your scheduled appointment.
