Q: Why does it seem that there is some inconsistency as to the number of lanes open for use on a daily basis at the Dale Mabry Gate?
A: Thank you for your inquiry into this matter. On June 2 a third lane was officially released to the 6th Security Forces Squadron for the purpose of facilitating traffic onto MacDill during peak traffic periods. Per the terms of our contract with the company doing the construction, we are guaranteed two lanes for use at the Dale Mabry Gate to facilitate traffic onto this installation. What that also means is that we guarantee any and all lanes above those two to the contractor to allow their work to continue unimpeded.
As you can see, while a lot is complete, there is a lot of work still to be done. While we have a great working relationship with the contractor, any action on our part which could cause work to be adjusted or slowed could result in additional cost to the government.
Until completion of the Dale Mabry Gate project, the contractor will ultimately determine which lanes (because it remains a construction area) are suitable for use by incoming traffic. While it is an inconvenience, please take a look at adjusting your schedule, you may find some relief from congestion with an earlier or later entry time.
We all share the growing pains during this period of construction, but the changes at the end will improve the flow of traffic onto our installation while continuing to make it a hard target. We are getting closer to this goal daily. Thank you again for your concerns and please let us know if we can assist you further in the future.
