Homebuyers assistance program provides advice, counseling
by Senior Airman Robin Drake
For first-time buyers, the initial step in purchasing a new house is knowing where to begin the search. Now personnel at MacDill are one step closer to finding a place they can call home.
The Housing Office and the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors, Inc. is scheduled to begin a homebuyers assistance program Tuesday.
"The program is designed to provide assistance and counseling to those individuals who are interested in buying a home within the Tampa Bay area," said Mrs. Milissa Jo Laven, housing manager.
Any person entitled to the services offered at the Housing Office can participate in the program.
Information available to customers includes Multiple Listing Service System rental and sale listings, and general information on real estate transactions.
Application procedures, current interest rates, and the various types of mortgages available, such as Veteran's Administration loans, Federal Housing Administration mortgages and Conventional loans, will be discussed during the advising session, said Mrs. Laven. If an individual is interested in speaking with additional lenders, a list will be provided.
If a customer requires further assistance with personal or specific advice, they must initiate contact with a private Realtor. The volunteer Realtor on duty at the Housing Office does not have authorization to schedule the individual for a future appointment.
"The GTAR volunteers will be available to meet with individuals at the Housing Office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m.," said Mrs. Linda D. Rousseau, Off-Base Housing assistant.
Appointments can be scheduled and walk-in's are set up as a first-come, first served basis.
"We are very excited about this venture and see it as another avenue to provide assistance for our members," said Mrs. Laven.
