Beneficiaries currently assigned to Humana Military Healthcare Services in Florida and the 6th Medical Group will notice very few changes if any when the new contract takes effect Aug. 1.

Humana Military Healthcare Services was awarded the $2 billion TRICARE South contract that will encompass Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and the Eastern portion of Texas.

"The award of these contracts concludes an intense process of dedication and inter-service cooperation," said Lt. Gen. Dr. George Peach Taylor, surgeon general of the Air Force. "It also marks the beginning of new partnerships specifically designed to focus on our beneficiaries to reward quality and help us strengthen our expeditionary Air Force."

The new TRICARE contract will leave the basic benefit structure (Tricare Prime, Extra, Standard, and Plus) and enrollment unchanged. A nice change that was added to the Prime program for retirees was an option to pay the enrollment fee by allotment or electronic funds transfer.

The appointment lines at the 6th MDG will remain the same but the toll-free Health Care Information telephone line at 800-333-5331 will no longer be available as of Aug. 1.

If you have questions regarding health concerns during normal duty hours, TRICARE Prime enrollees should contact their primary care manager. When urgent care questions arise after hours, 6th MDG TRICARE Prime enrollees may contact 828-2273 and leave a message for the on-call provider. All care received at a network Urgent Care Center must be authorized by your primary care manager within 24 hours. If you have a life threatening emergency then you should contact 911 or proceed to the nearest Emergency Room.

For claims assistance, TRICARE Prime beneficiaries should contact Palmetto GBA at 800-403-3950. Beginning Aug. 1, TRICARE Dual Eligible Beneficiaries' (Medicare A and B) claims will be handled through WPS in Madison, Wis. Starting Aug. 1, dual eligible beneficiaries with claims questions may contact WPS at 1-866-773-0404.

Beneficiaries may also access health care information online at www.tricareonline.osd.mil. Beginning July 1, beneficiaries may contact 1-877-TRICARE for questions regarding claims, enrollment and out of area care.

During normal duty hours, beneficiaries may call their primary care manager for health advice. Health care information is also available online at www.tricareonline.osd.mil.
