Youth Sports

 

Intramural Basketball
Registration is under way for the upcoming Intramural Basketball season beginning in January. The league age groups are 5 to 6 years old, and 7 to 8 years old. The cost is $30 for Youth Program members and $45 for non-members. A copy of a birth certificate and sports physical are required to register and as a reminder, sports physicals are only good for one year. Registration deadline is Dec. 10.

Boys & Girls Club Basketball
Registration is underway for the upcoming Boys & Girls Club Basketball season beginning in January. The league age groups are: 9 to 10 years old co-ed, 11 to 12 years old co-ed, 13 to 15 years old (male) and 13 to 15 years old (female) and 16 to 18 years old (male). A copy of the child's birth certificate and current physical are required to register. Registration deadline is Dec. 10.

Cheerleading
The Youth Center is accepting registration for cheerleaders ages 5 to 15. The cost is $30 for Youth Program members and $45 for non-members. A birth certificate and current sports physical are required at the time of registration. Registration deadline is Dec. 10.

Baseball
Registration is underway for the upcoming Baseball season now through Jan. 14. Participation fees are $35 for Youth Center members and $50 for non-members. Fees for ages 5 to 10 years will be collected at time of registration. A copy of a birth certificate and sports physical are required to register and as a reminder, sports physicals are only good for one year. Mandatory league assessments for kids ages 7 and up will be conducted Jan. 21 and 28, 2006.

Bowling
Interested youths can sign up now for the Youth Postal Bowling Tournament to be held in January. The program is available to all youth family members of active duty, retired and Department of Defense civilians ages 5 to 18. An entry fee will be determined.

Coaches needed
Coaches and assistant coaches are needed to support a variety of youth sports. A National Youth Sports Coaches Association certification is required to be a coach or assistant coach at the MacDill Youth Center. This certification is free with a coaching commitment of one sport. Coaches for soccer and basketball are encouraged to attend, but baseball coaches will have priority. Space is limited so sign up early. An installation records check and state criminal records check are required for all volunteer positions.

Volunteers needed
Volunteer at the Youth Center and receive great MACVIP benefits. Volunteers are rewarded with special incentives from base agencies, special parking at base facilities, along with other neat stuff. The Youth Center currently needs volunteers for field maintenance, baseball, basketball, soccer and cheerleading coaches.
