MacDill approved for conference support facility construction

The Air Force approved the design and construction of a $78 million conference support facility Friday at MacDill Air Force Base as part of the fiscal year 2007 non-appropriated fund construction program.

The new facility will consist of visiting quarters and a collocated club to support MacDill's mission. The facility will include 430 guestrooms, 20 business suites and a collocated club, combining the officer and enlisted clubs. The facility will have a 65 percent increase in rooms compared to the current lodging facilities and will be constructed on the site of the existing Officer's Club located on Bayshore Drive. The capacity increase will accommodate the continued growth in MacDill's official visitors. MacDill greatly appreciates the participation by 25 representatives from 16 companies across the country in the market research sponsored by the base. However, the Air Force decided against a privatized project and instead selected a non-appropriated funds avenue of execution. The base is developing an acquisition strategy for final design and construction in 2007.
