Free abduction prevention seminar to be held in Tampa

Tiger Schulmann's Karate in Tampa announced that it would be conducting a free Abduction Prevention Seminar for children.

The seminar is set for 5 to 6 p.m. May 14 at the Tiger Schulmann's Karate Center located at the Dibbs Center Shopping Center, 15433 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. Parents should call 269-5425 or 800-52-TIGER for more information and to reserve space.

The seminar will focus on teaching children basic abduction prevention skills, through a combination of 'do and don't' situation skits, and through discussions about strangers, avoidance, code words and escape techniques. Instruction will also be given on what to do (and not to do) when at home alone (especially relative for latchkey children). Parents will also be coached on the importance of educating their children on identifying potentially dangerous situations and in teaching them how to react.

"With the recent increase in child abductions, we feel it's important to do what we can to teach children basic abduction prevention principles," said Delhi Eric Mitchell and Deshi Rich Cifuentes, head instructors of Tiger Schulmann's Karate located in Hyde Park and Carrollwood, Fla. "We hope that these seminars will heighten children's ability to recognize these types of situations, as well as teach them how to avoid and escape them."

This free Abduction Prevention Seminar is part of Tiger Schulmann's Karate CHILDSAFE Program, established in 1992 as a program designed to teach awareness about child safety, and to encourage communication between parents and children about these vital issues.
