Grand Opening

Planting a tree for Arbor Day

Fourth-grade students at Tinker Elementary commemorate National Arbor Day with a tree-planting ceremony April 22. Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. More than one million trees were planted on the first Arbor Day in 1872.

Jump start to a healthy lifestyle

Chrislyn Hull, a second grade student at Tinker Elementary, participates in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart April 22. Jump Rope for Heart is an educational fund-raising event designed to promote the value of physical activity. Tinker students raised more than $5,000 for the event.

Dragon boat racing

A team of Airmen from MacDill (boat 2) compete in the Dragon Boat Race Saturday in Tampa's downtown Garrison Channel. Team MacDill's time placed it third in its division and eighth overall out of 61 teams. The 2005 event marks the second consecutive year a team from MacDill has paddled a boat in the race.

Boat Safety Day

Amos Johnson, Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 7 vice captain and public education officer, was on hand at the Base Exchange Wednesday to help promote boating safety. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks and safety patrols.
